We are so grateful that no one died in all these storms we had yesterday but plenty of people are in need of help. Please check out the Red Cross website or with your local churches to see what you can do to help.

Here’s a few pictures I took yesterday here in Forney, TX. One is the tornado and one is my darling daughter with a football helmet on taking cover in the downstairs bathroom. The tornado didn’t touch my neighborhood but our community has been effected.

How to Blog | Lesson 3

Now that you’ve learned the basics of How to Blog and how to set up your blog we’ll move on to how to make money from your blog!

There are many ways to make money from blogging. It basically comes down to advertising though. Ads equal dollars! There is also a traffic factor there without an audience your blog isn’t worth much but in my opinion it’s worth setting up some ways to make money and then work on the traffic. Affiliate programs and pay per click ads cost your nothing to set up and are ready to make you money when you start getting traffic to your site.

A couple of places I use and have been paid from are:

Google Adsense

Logical Media – great for coupon sites

My Savings Media – great for coupon sites

Info Links – are links within the text of your blog that are double underlined. This is a pay per click company.

Commission Junction

Escalate Network – great for coupon sites

Amazon great for making commissions on just about any product you can think of that you might want to blog about.

You can also offer ad space on your site and take payments through Paypal. You’ll want to share your traffic stats with potential advertisers so they know if they are getting their monies worth. If you need a way to track your traffic I suggest Stat Counter.

You can also offer to do a blog post for an advertiser for a monetary fee. Again, you want to have stats on hand.

Buyer Beware! Mobile Mass Money

There are lots of people who make lots of money on the internet preying on those that don’t know about online marketing and how things work exactly. Recently I had someone call me who had gotten my number from a friend to see if I could help out with something that she had signed up for called Mobile Mass Money.

The setup of it was complicated and she didn’t understand how to get it working for her. She sent me the emails she had received and I got the initial part set up for her. But don’t you know, Mobile Mass Money would have done it for free if she had only bought the domain name and hosting from someone they were partnered with. “Partnered” meaning they both make money.

As for the mobile phone “advertising” part. I have been watching the videos that she sent over that helps you to set it up and am still confused by how all of that works and I would consider myself pretty internet savvy.

So, the first part of set up you try to sell the system they sold you… then you get a piece of that but for the most part it’s a cash cow for the person you originally purchased it from since it comes with their affiliate links embedded into it.

I’m all for making money online. I do it with this blog and several others. But I don’t do it by being sneaky, preying on people’s ignorance is a huge no-no in my book!

Bottom line, you could make money with Mobile Mass Money. It’s not impossible but in reality, I would NOT recommend this product unless you have a huge mailing list and internet marketing experience.

And as with any work at home opportunity, before you purchase or sign up for anything take some time searching the internet and see what other people are saying about it. If whatever if being offered has a “time limit” that wouldn’t allow you to take the time to research it or think it over, your answer should be no.

How to Blog | Lesson 2

Now that you have picked the subject, the name and where you want to host your blog, that we discussed in How to Blog – Lesson 1. You’ll need to get your new blog set up.

I feel the easiest way to learn how to set up your blog is to visit YouTube.

How to Blog | Lesson 1

Learning how to blog is a pretty simple. Of course everything is easy once you know how.

The first thing to get started blogging is to pick a subject to blog about. This can be anything that you have a passion for, whether it’s cupcakes, hockey or what’s going on in your city. It’s important that your subject piques your interest so, it will be easy to write blog posts on a regular basis.

Next you’ll want to choose a name for your blog and check it’s availability. You can do this once you choose where to host your blog which we’ll talk about shortly. Put some thought into the name of your blog. Your blog name should also be easy to spell and if possible short and to the point.

After you choose the subject and your the name of your blog, you’ll need a place to set it up. I would suggest setting up your new blog at Blogger or a self hosted WordPress. This site is a self hosted WordPress website, which I chose because I’m in full control of the site, whereas with blogger you are not always in control and have to follow their guidelines.

If you are just looking for a hobby or to dip your toe in the pool, going with Blogger would be a good option. There is no out of pocket cost unless you choose to buy a domain name of your own. If you choose not to buy a name it will look like whateveryourblogname.blogspot.com

Should you feel like you want to be serious about blogging as a business, then a WordPress self hosted site is the way to go. You can get started for under $20 for the domain name and the hosting. While there are plenty of places to set up a WordPress website, I personally like HostGator the best. They have an easy to understand control plan and excellent customer support. Rule of Five & Five Ideas for Promoting Your Wahm Business

Whether you have a home based business or are a blogging wahm, using the Rule of Five will help you grow your business or readership.

The Rule of Five is a simple idea I came up with for myself years ago. Easily put I do five things everyday to promote my blogs. Yes, I have more than one. Why five? Well besides it being a nice number, it’s the number of children I have.

Here are a five ideas for promoting your business.

Find a good networking group on Facebook like, Addicted to Networking.
Use those email signatures on all your emails. Remember though sending naughty jokes with your siggy is not a good idea. Use good judgement.
Leave a comment on a blog post, like this one with your URL. Make the comment sincere, you don’t want to appear spammy.
Write articles for others to use that include your signature line with the link back to your blog/website.
Find a good blog hop, I like the ones hosted by Just Married with Coupons. From one blog hop you can find others. These are beneficial for networking.

Everyone Else Is Learning How to Make Money Online – Why Aren’t You an Affiliate Marketer?

Many people are searching these days to learn how to start making money online. With so many “work from home” and “online income” scams out there not many people know where or even how to achieve their online entrepreneurship goals. I found myself in this position many years ago. Star struck at the idea of earning money online I signed up for several sites that claim you can make money from home, but in the end found myself disappointed and ultimately losing money on the deal.

Nearly ready to give up I was explaining my frustrations to my internet marketing friend who introduced the idea that I could become involved in Affiliate Marketing. Not knowing what affiliate marketing was or even how it worked I began to listen with great intent. It sounded so amazing.

In a nutshell he explained that in affiliate marketing I simply needed to create a website that began to produce some traffic. Once I’ve established some traffic I could begin recommending certain products to my viewers and begin getting commissions when they sell. I asked him how I could inventory and ship the products in my teeny house. He laughed and gave me a reassuring smile. He continued to explain that Online Retailers simply give you a link to help recommend the product and they give you a commission if someone uses that link to purchase a product. Affiliate Marketing is simply the idea of recommending a product and getting a commission when someone buys from the retailer, who handles all of the inventory, shipping, and returns.

Feeling like I just hit the lottery I began learning how to become and affiliate marketer. The first thing I needed was a website. I learned there are several routes you can take when making the decision of how to set up a website. I’m not a programmer or even a designer. I barely knew basic HTML. I actually realized I knew very little about the Internet and how it worked.

So I studied about how to build websites and this is what I found:

You need a place to store your content.
Just like making a brick and mortar business you need to rent a space where you can store your content. This is known as your host. The host is an online computer that holds all of your articles, pictures and website goodies where it can be accessed 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Then like a brick and mortar business I needed a name to put on the store. This is known as your domain name. When you type in Google.com the word Google is transformed into a language/numeric address where when traveling on the web can reach it’s desired destination. The computer wouldn’t know where to send a request for Google and we, as humans can’t always remember 000.121.23.1. So when you buy your name you buy the ability for people to remember who you are.
Once you have a host and a Domain Name, you need something to organize that into something that you can understand and modify for your needs. I prefer to use Content Management Systems. A CMS allows you to write your content and present it in a way that doesn’t require a degree in web development. I use WordPress and load that directly into my host.
Once I had my basic website set up and organized I was ready to begin creating content and advertise my content. I didn’t fill it will a lot of Affiliate Links in the beginning, simply because I was told by my friend to not place a billboard on a rural street. I needed traffic. Once I had traffic then it was time to start making links.

It was so simple to do that I was able to build 30-40 websites a month without much effort. The more time went on the better I got at Affiliate Marketing. Soon I was making hundreds of dollars a month. I became such an advocate of Affiliate Marketing that I started school to learn more about it with Full Sail University. If you’ve been considering ways to earning an income online and don’t want to worry about the hassle of inventory of product, returns, and customer complaints I would definitely recommend learning more about how to become and Affiliate Marketer.

Marketplace, group, fans page, networked blog are among applications which you can use to promote your business to moms and to network with other home based working moms. If you are selling physical products, you can use Marketplace and publish what you sell through your network of people within Facebook. Creating your own group or fans page is a good idea to bring in potential customers and broadcast your message. If you have a business blog, do set up a networked blog to broadcast your latest post automatically.

Twitter

Twitter is quite different from Facebook where members “tweet” to each other. To tweet is to send messages up to 140 characters. Through Twitter, you get to know others from their tweets. Your tweet may appeal to some potential customers which may attract them to follow you. You can send messages to your followers personally, create a list or join other members list.

Linkedin

Lindkedin is internet social networking site for professionals and business people. Groups or Jobs are the applications within Linkedin. You can start by joining groups of your interest and network with the people within the group. If you are home based working moms, you should look for specific moms group to interact with them.

You may eventually find internet social networking spices up your social life and benefits your WAHM business. Please note that your intention is to socialize with moms or to network with home based working moms. Do not sell hard your products or services. Friends get to know you in person and they will find out about your WAHM business. Position yourself as an expert, be friendly and genuine to your friends network.
